Attacks in France yield lessons for campus community

Lassana Bathily was working as a grocery clerk in the French grocery store that was the target of an Active Shooter. According to an NPR news story, he was in the basement storeroom when the attacker entered the store upstairs. He took quick action and lead some customers into a walk-in fridge, turned off the light, and told them to stay calm. He then exited and escaped through a delivery shaft and provided information to police. Many of those who survived the attack say Bathily helped save their lives.

This is an excellent example of someone who knew how to respond to an active shooter and took action that saved lives. Do you know what to do if you are threatened by a violent attacker? Visit safety.utk.edu and make sure. It could save your life.
