The National Weather Service in Morristown announced another hot and humid day is expected again today. If storm coverage holds off until late afternoon as is expected, temperatures and dew points will allow for heat indices to peak at 100 to just over 105F in the Knoxville metro area has issued a heat advisory through 8 PM.
Heat can be harmful because it pushes the human body beyond its limits. In extreme heat and high humidity, evaporation is slowed and the body must work extra hard to maintain a normal temperature. It’s important to always be prepared.
According to Ready.gov, here are a few simple things you can do inside and outside of your home to beat the heat:

- If you recognize signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, treat as a medical emergency.
- Stay hydrated. Drink lots of water.
- Apply sunscreen regularly when outdoors.
- Dress in light-colored and lightweight clothing.
- Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning if possible.
- NEVER leave kids or pets unattended in a vehicle…LOOK before you LOCK!
