Tennessee is experiencing a significant drought and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency is encouraging all communities to follow the following fire prevention tips:
- Make sure an adult is present at all fires.
- Keep flammable fall decorations at least 3 feet from open flames or heat sources.
- Use artificial flameless candles in place of open flames.
- Use grills away from flammable materials, never leave unattended, and if using charcoal make sure it is completely cool before disposal.
- Never park a vehicle over a pile of leaves.

“Drought and dry conditions have contributed to 837 wildfires burning 20,000 acres in Tennessee so far this year,” said Director Patrick Sheehan, of the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA). “We are asking everyone spending any time outdoors this season to be aware of the fire risk and to take extra care with potential sources of fire ignition. This will help us avoid needless and potentially deadly wildfires.”
