The University of Tennessee Office of Emergency Management will conduct a test of the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) capability of UT Alert on Thursday, July 14 at 8:30 a.m. to ensure the system is effective in warning the public about campus wide emergencies.


On June 15, the U.S. Department of Energy in partnership with the Knoxville Utilities Board and Knoxville Fire Department will conduct an exercise at the Kuwahee Wastewater Treatment Plant at 2015 Neyland Drive. UT and other first responder agencies will also participate.


Local government and agencies once again rose to the challenge posed by wildfires in the Great Smoky Mountains, which began at the end of March. Public safety professionals from across East Tennessee, including Brian Gard and Brad Walker from the UT Office of Emergency Management, responded to help the residents of Sevier County.

The Knox County Health Department has recognized the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s efforts to keep the campus community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. The health department this week awarded UT a Community Commitment Certificate.


UT is coordinating with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Tennessee Department of Health, the Knox County Health Department, and international health safety and security agencies to closely monitor the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
